Getting started

Signing in

Codes sent to your email, passkeys, and Apple. Choirside has no passwords.

Choirside has no passwords. There is nothing to memorize, nothing to reset, and no password field anywhere in the app. You sign in one of three ways, and you can use whichever is easiest on the device in front of you.

A code sent to your email

This is the way everyone starts, and it always works.

Enter your email address and tap Email me a code. We send you a message containing a six-digit code, which you type into the app.

That same email also contains a sign-in link. Tapping it signs you in without typing the code at all, which is usually quicker on a phone. The code and the link are two ways into the same sign-in, so use whichever you prefer, and ignore the other.

A few things worth knowing:

  • Codes expire. If you leave it too long you’ll see “That sign-in expired. Request a new code.” Tap Resend code and use the fresh one. Old codes stop working as soon as you request a new one.
  • Check your spam folder if nothing arrives within a minute or two. Adding our sending address to your contacts stops it happening again.
  • Typed the wrong address? Tap Use a different email and start over.
  • If you tap a sign-in link while already signed in as somebody else, the app warns you before switching, because it signs the first account out.

A passkey

A passkey signs you in with Face ID, a fingerprint, or your device password, so there’s no email round trip at all. It’s the fastest option once it’s set up.

You can’t create a passkey until you’re signed in. Get in with an emailed code first, then go to Settings › Security › Add a passkey. From then on, the Sign in with a passkey button on the sign-in screen is all you need.

Under Security each passkey is labeled either Synced or This device only. A synced passkey follows you through your password manager or iCloud Keychain and works on your other devices; a device-only passkey does not, so if that device is your only way in, keep email sign-in available as a backup.

You can rename a passkey, and you can remove one at any time. Removing it doesn’t lock you out, you can still get in with an emailed code.

Apple

If you have an Apple account you can tap Sign in with Apple on the sign-in screen, both to create an account and to come back to one.

You can also link Apple to an account you already have, from Settings › Security › Linked accounts. Linking only adds another way in. It never changes the email address your sign-in codes go to, and unlinking later leaves your account and everything in it untouched.

When one email covers more than one account

If the same email address covers more than one account, you’ll see “This email covers more than one account” and a list to choose from.

Pick the one you meant. Signing in again lets you switch.

Still stuck?

If no code arrives, or you’re not sure which email address your choir invited, email support@broadheadsoftware.com and tell us the address you’re trying and the name of your choir. Your director can also see which address they invited.
