Questions about the plans

Do my choir members pay?

No, and they never will, on any plan. Members join free. A subscription covers the director running the choir.

What counts as an active track?

A track your choir can currently open in the app. The Free plan holds ten of them, which is roughly a concert cycle. Archiving one you've finished with frees the slot, and nothing is deleted when you do.

Where do members' practice takes go?

Nowhere, unless the singer sends them. A take is kept on the phone and listed under the song; uploading is a separate button they have to press, so a take they don't upload never reaches us at all. Nothing deletes one to reclaim space, however many pile up, because it is the only copy in existence. The singer removes them when they want to.

If they do upload one, the rest of the choir still cannot hear it, but their director and section leaders can. That is the point of it for most directors, and it is worth telling your singers rather than leaving them to assume otherwise. An active track is one your choir can open, so a practice take is not one and does not use a slot.

Sharing with the whole choir is a further, deliberate step. A singer can record a sectional track meant for the rest of the choir, and even then it stays hidden until a director approves it.

What does "unlimited" actually mean?

Unlimited for the way a choir actually works. There's no member count or track count we cut you off at, but Choirside isn't a file host, a backup service, or a way to distribute music to the public, and one choir can't be a shell for several ensembles. Is there a limit on how much my choir downloads?

No cap you're likely to meet. Members download a track once and it stays on the phone, so a choir of any size settles into a trickle rather than fetching the same anthem over and over. We watch total transfer for abuse, and we'd write to you before doing anything about it.

Can I get my data out?

Account deletion works today, and takes your content with it. Bulk export of your members, attendance, and library is written on the server but has no screen yet, so for now ask us and we'll send it to you. It will never be a paid feature: your data is yours on every plan, including a lapsed one.

What happens to my music if I stop paying, later on?

Nothing is deleted. Your choir keeps full access to the end of the period you've paid for. After that, anything above the Free plan's limits becomes read only rather than removed: every track still plays and every score still opens, you just can't add more until you free up room or resubscribe. You can export your data at any point, including after a plan lapses.

Does a subscription cover the music licenses?

No, and this is worth reading properly. Choirside is a tool for sharing files. It doesn't grant you any rights to the music you upload, and you're responsible for holding the licenses your choir needs. See copyright and licensing.
