Getting started

Joining your choir

Invite links, QR codes and join codes, and what happens once you're in.

Choirs on Choirside are invitation-only. You can’t search for a choir and ask to join, your director has to let you in. There are three ways they can do that, and all three end up in the same place.

The most common route. Your director sends you a link, by email, text, or whatever group chat your choir uses. Tapping it opens Choirside, shows you which choir you’re about to join, and asks you to confirm.

If you don’t have an account yet, you’ll sign in first, and the invitation is waiting for you afterwards.

Invite links don’t last forever. Directors can set an expiry date and a maximum number of uses, so a link that worked for somebody last season may be dead by the time it reaches you. If you see “This invite link is invalid or has expired”, ask for a new one, nothing is wrong with your account.

A QR code

If your director is standing in front of you at rehearsal, this is the quickest way. In the app, go to Settings › Join another choir, choose to scan, and point your camera at the QR code they’re showing.

The first time you do this your phone will ask permission to use the camera. If you say no, the scanner can’t work, and you’ll need to grant camera access in your phone’s settings before trying again. Any invite link can also be typed or pasted instead, so a declined camera permission is never a dead end.

A join code

Every choir has a short join code. Go to Settings › Join another choir and enter it.

Some choirs hide their code from members, so if you can’t see one to share with a friend, that’s a deliberate setting your director controls, not a bug.

Once you’re in

Your director sets your voice part, you don’t pick it yourself. This surprises people. If your part is wrong or missing, ask your director or your section leader to change it, it takes them a few seconds. Until it’s set, the app can’t tell which of a song’s parts are yours.

You’ll only see the features your choir uses. Choirside has a music library, member recordings, a calendar, and announcements, and each one can be switched on or off per choir. A tab missing from your app usually means your choir isn’t using that feature, not that something is broken. New choirs start with the calendar switched off, so an empty-looking app on day one is normal.

You can be in more than one choir. Add as many as you’re invited to, and the library and messages screens let you filter by choir. Your account, your recordings, and your sign-in stay the same across all of them.

Leaving

Open the choir from Settings and choose Leave.

Leaving removes you from that choir and your access to its songs, events and messages. Any recordings you made in that choir are deleted, including ones you shared with it, and rejoining later will not bring them back. Your account and your other choirs are untouched.

If you own the organization the choir belongs to, you can’t leave it, you’d transfer ownership or delete the choir instead.
